Hotels in Greece: Where to Stay in Every City and Island
Greece has one of the Mediterranean's most diverse accommodation landscapes. At the top end, Santorini's caldera-view cave suites and Mykonos's design hotels are among the most photographed in the world. At the other end, the family-run pension on a quiet Cycladic backstreet — white walls, terracotta tiles, breakfast on a terrace — remains one of the most satisfying ways to stay in Greece.
Value for money varies enormously by location. Santorini and Mykonos command premium prices year-round. The quieter Cyclades (Paros, Naxos, Milos), the Ionian Islands (Corfu, Kefalonia), and mainland cities offer substantially better value. We have written detailed where-to-stay guides for all cities and islands covered on this site.
Types of Accommodation
Boutique Hotels & Suites
Santorini is famous for its cave hotels and infinity-pool suites carved into the caldera cliff — properties like Katikies, Canaves Oia, and Mystique sit at the top of the market. Similar boutique properties exist across the Cyclades and in Athens's Kolonaki and Koukaki neighbourhoods. Mid-range boutique hotels in Athens run approximately €80–200/night.
Island Beach Resorts
Mykonos, Rhodes, Kos, and Crete have well-developed resort zones — Santa Marina on Mykonos, Lindos on Rhodes, and the Elounda peninsula in Crete host five-star resort complexes. Corfu and Zakynthos have large resort hotels mainly in the north of each island. Value for money is substantially better outside the Cyclades.
Pensions & Guesthouses
Family-run pensions remain common on smaller islands and in mainland towns — Hydra, Paros, Naxos, Nafplio, and Delphi all have excellent small guesthouses. These typically charge €40–90/night for a double, include breakfast, and offer a level of local hospitality that larger hotels cannot match.
Budget Hostels & Apartments
Athens has a solid hostel network in Monastiraki, Psirri, and Koukaki — good dorms run approximately €18–30/night. Self-catering apartments are excellent value on the islands; a two-bedroom apartment on Paros or Naxos can be cheaper than a basic hotel room on Santorini or Mykonos.
