Sifnos has more accommodation depth than most comparable Cycladic islands — a mix of traditional village rooms, design-conscious boutique hotels, and one standout luxury resort. The island is also well regarded for its food, which means mid-range hotels with good restaurant access get booked quickly. Apollonia and Artemonas
Apollonia is the capital and the natural base for most visitors. The pedestrianised village centre has the island’s best concentration of restaurants, cafés, and shops, and the bus network radiates out from here. Artemonas sits just north of Apollonia — almost continuous with it — and is somewhat quieter, with elegant neoclassical houses and good views toward the coast.
Verina Astra — One of the island’s best-known boutique properties, on the ridgeline above Artemonas. Twelve suites with panoramic sea views, a pool terrace, and attentive service. Kamares (Port)
Kamares is where the ferries arrive and where the island’s main beach sits. It’s functional and friendly rather than picturesque, but the beach is decent and the tavernas are good. Useful if you have an early or late boat, or if you want to avoid the bus.

Platys Gialos
The longest beach on the island, on the south coast. A proper beach village with tavernas, sunbeds, and a handful of hotels clustered around the bay. Best for visitors who want to spend serious time on the beach rather than exploring inland.

Kastro
The medieval hilltop village above the east coast. Walking into Kastro feels like stepping back several centuries — narrow car-free lanes, medieval ramparts, Byzantine churches. Accommodation here is genuinely limited: a handful of rooms-to-rent and studios inside old stone houses. If you can get a room in Kastro, the atmosphere is unique.
