Corfu Airport (IATA: CFU), officially Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport, is one of the easiest Greek island airports to leave. It sits on the edge of Corfu Town, so the old town is a short ride away. The challenge is the rest of the island: Corfu is long and narrow, and the north coast resorts, Paleokastritsa on the west coast and the southern beaches are all 30-60 minutes from the terminal on winding roads. This guide covers the options with approximate prices as of 2026.
Airport Overview
IATA code: CFU
Full name: Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport
Location: approximately 2-3km south of Corfu Town centre
Terminal: One main terminal for arrivals and departures
Operator: Fraport Greece, which publishes flight information for the island
The runway ends close to the sea at Kanoni and planes land low over the water, which makes for a memorable arrival. Inside, you will find cafΓ©s, ATMs, shops and car hire desks. In July and August the arrivals hall can be busy when several charter flights land together, especially from the UK and northern Europe.
Transfer Options from Corfu Airport
Taxi
Taxis queue outside arrivals. Prices are agreed per destination and listed on a board near the rank, so you do not need to haggle, though you should confirm the figure before loading bags.
Approximate taxi fares (as of 2026):
- Corfu Town: approximately EUR 12-18
- Benitses and Moraitika: approximately EUR 25-35
- Agios Gordios and Pelekas: approximately EUR 30-40
- Paleokastritsa: approximately EUR 40-55
- Dassia and Ipsos: approximately EUR 30-40
- Kassiopi: approximately EUR 50-65
- Sidari and Roda: approximately EUR 55-70
Night fares are higher, and some drivers add a small luggage fee. Carry cash, as card terminals are not guaranteed.
Public Bus
Corfuβs local Blue Bus network serves the airport and Corfu Town. The fare is approximately EUR 1.50-2.50 as of 2026. The ride is short and cheap, but it only suits travellers staying in or near the town. Timetables change by season and the service stops in the evening. Check the current schedule with the operatorβs website, Corfu Urban KTEL, before you rely on it. For resorts beyond the town, you change at the main bus station, and the long-distance services to the north and west run on a limited timetable.
Private Transfer
Pre-booked private transfers make the most sense for the north, the west coast and anyone with children or heavy luggage. A driver meets you in arrivals and delivers you to the door. Kiwitaxi lets you compare local operators with fixed fares. Welcome Pickups offers meet-and-greet service that monitors your flight, so a late landing does not strand you.
Approximate private transfer prices (as of 2026):
- Corfu Town: approximately EUR 15-25
- Paleokastritsa: approximately EUR 45-60
- Kassiopi and the north-east: approximately EUR 55-75
- Sidari and the north coast: approximately EUR 60-80
Hotel and Villa Transfers
Many villa hosts and resort hotels arrange their own airport pickups, and some do so at a fair price. Ask at the time of booking. Villas on narrow back roads can be difficult for large vans to reach, so confirm the final drop-off with your host.
Car Hire
A car is the best way to see Corfu beyond the town. The beaches of the west coast, the hill villages of the interior and the quiet north-east are poorly served by buses. All the major brands and several local operators have desks at CFU. Book ahead for July and August. Our Greece car rental guide covers insurance and deposits, and you can compare car hire in Greece before you fly.
Roads are narrow in many places, with tight bends and little shoulder space. Smaller cars are easier on village roads and in parking areas.
Getting to Key Destinations
To Corfu Town
The old town and the Liston arcade are a 10-minute drive. Cars cannot enter the pedestrian centre, so taxis and transfers drop you at the edge, and you walk the last few hundred metres with your bags. Our where to stay in Corfu guide compares the town with the resort areas.
To the East Coast (Benitses, Moraitika, Dassia, Ipsos)
These resort strips line the coast road and are 20-40 minutes by car. Public buses run from the town bus station, not the airport.
To Paleokastritsa and the West Coast
Paleokastritsa is approximately 25km from the airport, about 35-45 minutes by car on a winding road. Agios Gordios and Pelekas on the central west coast are 25-35 minutes. There is no direct public transport from the airport.
To the North (Kassiopi, Sidari, Roda, Acharavi)
The north coast is the longest transfer, 50-75 minutes depending on the resort and traffic. A pre-booked transfer or a rental car is the practical choice.
To the South (Kavos and Lefkimmi)
The southern tip is around 45-60 minutes by road. Check your transfer carefully in high season, as traffic through the town can add time.
Late Arrivals and Early Departures
The Blue Bus does not run late, and taxis thin out after the last flights. For any arrival after 22:00, pre-book a driver. For early flights, arrange a pickup the evening before and allow extra time, especially from the north and west.
Ferries and Onward Travel
Corfu is in the Ionian Sea, so ferries run to the mainland ports of Igoumenitsa and Albania rather than to Piraeus. If you are combining Corfu with Athens, you will normally fly or go by road via Igoumenitsa. For things to do once you arrive, see our Corfu island guide and getting around Corfu. The best tours in Corfu page lists the main excursions, and you can browse Corfu tours directly.
Tips for Corfu Transfers
- Match transport to your base: Corfu Town works with a taxi or bus. The north and west reward a pre-booked transfer or a car.
- Confirm luggage and child seats: Ask for these at booking.
- Allow for summer traffic: The coastal road through the east resorts can be slow in the evening.
- Keep your driverβs number: Useful if flights are delayed or if you cannot find the meeting point.
- Book the return: Arrange your return pickup to CFU at the same time.
Pre-book your Corfu airport transfer for a fixed price, or choose Welcome Pickups for flight-tracked meet and greet.
