Lefkada Town, at the northern end of the island, is connected to the mainland by a floating causeway. Walking the lanes behind the waterfront reveals one of the more distinctive townscapes in the Ionians.

The waterfront esplanade runs along the lagoon side. Cafes and restaurants are clustered here — Sto Molo and Iy Folia are reliable choices for traditional mezedes (small plates approximately €5–9 each). Combine with Porto Katsiki beach on the same afternoon — the beach access road branches off just above before the final stretch to the lighthouse. Allow 2–3 hours for both.

Day Trip to Meganisi

Meganisi is a small island south-east of Lefkada, reachable by ferry from Nidri (30–40 minutes, approximately €5–7 return as of 2026). The island has three villages — Spartochori, Katomeri, and the port of Vathi — and approximately 1,000 year-round residents. Tourism infrastructure is minimal: no resorts, no beach clubs, no organised excursions.

Spartochori sits on a hill above the port, with a small church and a handful of tavernas overlooking the sea. Katomeri has a beach bar in summer.
