The route is the first direct connection between Dallas and Greece and opens up a significantly shorter travel option for visitors from the southern and central United States who previously had to route through the US East Coast or European hubs.

The service operates on American’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with Flagship Business, Premium Economy, and Main Cabin seating. The flight takes approximately 12 hours 30 minutes westbound (Athens to Dallas) and around 11 hours 15 minutes eastbound (Dallas to Athens).
Dallas Fort Worth acts as one of American’s largest domestic hubs, connecting the route to cities across Texas, the Southeast, the Midwest, and beyond. Travellers from cities such as Houston, San Antonio, Denver, Chicago, and Miami can now reach Athens without a European stopover.
Why This Matters for US Visitors
Until this summer, direct US-Athens service was primarily concentrated on the East Coast — JFK and Philadelphia — meaning most American visitors either connected through Europe or used one of those northeastern gateways. The Dallas route gives the rest of the country genuine nonstop access.
Athens is the main international arrival point for Greece, and from there the entire country is reachable: island ferries depart from Piraeus port throughout the summer, while domestic flights connect Athens to Crete, Rhodes, Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu.
