Zakynthos Airport (IATA: ZTH), officially Dionysios Solomos Airport, is a seasonal gateway for one of the busiest holiday islands in the Ionian. It is close to Zakynthos Town, and the main beach resorts of Laganas, Kalamaki and Tsilivi are all within 20-30 minutes. The trickier destinations are the north (Alykes, Volimes) and the west (Navagio viewpoint and Porto Vromi). This guide covers each way to make the trip, with approximate prices as of 2026.
Airport Overview
IATA code: ZTH
Full name: Zakynthos International Airport βDionysios Solomosβ
Location: approximately 4-5km south-west of Zakynthos Town
Terminal: One main terminal for arrivals and departures
Operator: Fraport Greece
The terminal is small, with cafΓ©s, ATMs and rental desks, and in July and August it fills quickly when charter flights land together. Arrivals are heavily weighted towards charter flights from the UK and northern Europe.
Transfer Options from Zakynthos Airport
Taxi
Taxis wait outside arrivals. Fares are fixed by zone and listed on a board at the rank. Carry cash, as card payment is not universal.
Approximate taxi fares (as of 2026):
- Zakynthos Town: approximately EUR 10-15
- Laganas: approximately EUR 15-22
- Kalamaki: approximately EUR 15-22
- Tsilivi: approximately EUR 15-22
- Argassi: approximately EUR 15-22
- Vasilikos: approximately EUR 25-35
- Alykes and Alykanas: approximately EUR 35-50
- Porto Vromi and Volimes: approximately EUR 55-75
Night fares are higher, and luggage can carry a surcharge. Summer arrival days can leave queues at the rank, so be prepared to wait.
Public Bus
The islandβs KTEL bus network is built around Zakynthos Town and runs to the main resorts on a limited timetable. There is no dependable airport shuttle, and schedules change by season, so check locally. For most travellers it is a poor fit for a first-day arrival with bags. A taxi, transfer or rental car is simpler.
Private Transfer
A pre-booked private transfer is worthwhile for families and groups, and especially for the north and the west. The driver meets you at arrivals and takes you to your door. Kiwitaxi lets you compare operators with fixed prices, and Welcome Pickups offers a meet-and-greet service that tracks your flight.
Approximate private transfer prices (as of 2026):
- Zakynthos Town: approximately EUR 15-25
- Laganas and Kalamaki: approximately EUR 20-30
- Tsilivi: approximately EUR 20-30
- Alykes: approximately EUR 40-55
Hotel and Villa Transfers
Many resorts and villa owners arrange pickups. Ask at booking and confirm the final drop-off point. Villas on small back roads may not be reachable by a large vehicle.
Car Hire
A car makes the most of Zakynthos. Navagio viewpoint, Keri lighthouse, the northern villages and the quiet west coast are poorly served by public buses. Desks for the major brands and local firms are at the airport. Book ahead for July and August, and see our Greece car rental guide for insurance and deposits. You can compare car hire in Greece before you fly.
Roads in the interior and to the west are narrow and steep in places. Smaller cars are easier on village roads.
Getting to Key Destinations
To Zakynthos Town
About 10 minutes by road. The town has the harbour, Solomos Square and a range of restaurants. Many visitors who stay elsewhere visit by bus or taxi for dinner. For a comparison of areas, see our where to stay in Zakynthos guide.
To Laganas and Kalamaki
Laganas is the islandβs busiest resort, with a busy bar strip and a long beach in the national marine park. It is about 15-20 minutes from the airport. Kalamaki, next door, is quieter. Both are in the area where sea turtles nest, so mind local restrictions on beach use at night.
To Tsilivi and Argassi
Tsilivi, on the north-east side, and Argassi, to the south-east, are family resorts about 15-20 minutes away.
To Alykes and the North
Alykes and Alykanas are approximately 35-45 minutes by road. A pre-booked transfer or rental car is the practical choice.
To Navagio and the West
Porto Vromi and the Navagio viewpoint are approximately 45-60 minutes from the airport, on winding roads. Most visitors see Navagio by boat from Porto Vromi or from the ports on the east side. Browse Zakynthos tours for boat trips, and see getting around Zakynthos for how to cover the island.
Late Arrivals and Early Departures
Late arrivals can find taxis scarce and local buses finished for the day. Pre-book a driver for any arrival after 22:00. For early flights, arrange a pickup the evening before, and allow time for traffic in Laganas in peak season.
Ferries and Onward Travel
Zakynthos is an Ionian island. Ferries to the mainland sail between Zakynthos Town and Kyllini on the Peloponnese, so if you are coming from Athens by ferry you first travel by road or bus to Kyllini. Our Zakynthos island guide covers the full picture.
Tips for Zakynthos Transfers
- Match transport to your base: Zakynthos Town and the southern resorts are an easy taxi ride. The north and west reward a transfer or car.
- Confirm the drop-off point: Especially for villas on small roads.
- Carry some cash: For taxis and tips.
- Allow time in peak season: Laganas traffic builds in the evening.
- Book the return trip: Arrange your pickup back to ZTH at the same time.
Pre-book your Zakynthos airport transfer for a fixed price, or choose Welcome Pickups for flight-tracked meet and greet.
