The Thessaloniki International Fair (Διεθνής Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης) is Greece’s most important annual trade and commercial exhibition, held each September at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre (HelExpo). The 2027 edition will be the 91st TIF, expected in early September 2027 - likely 4–12 September based on the established pattern of recent years (2025: 6–14 Sept; 2026: 5–13 Sept).

Note: Exact 2027 dates will be announced by HelExpo (thessalonikifair.gr) in spring 2027. The dates above are estimated. Check the official website for confirmation.

What the fair is

The TIF is not primarily a consumer show - it is a major trade and investment exhibition that draws business delegations from across Europe and the broader Mediterranean region. Over 200,000 visitors typically attend across the nine-day period, including:

  • International exhibiting countries with national pavilions
  • Greek and international companies presenting products and services
  • Government ministers from Greece and visiting delegations

The fair has served as the traditional stage for the Greek Prime Minister’s annual economic address, delivered each September to outline the government’s economic priorities for the coming year. This address draws significant media attention and sets the tone for national economic debate.

Flagship country

Each year, one country is designated as the TIF’s official “flagship country” (χώρα τιμώμενη), with a prominent national pavilion and a bilateral programme of cultural and business events. Previous flagship countries have included Germany, China, Cyprus, and Romania. The 2027 flagship country has not been announced at the time of writing.

Attending as a visitor

Some sections of the TIF are open to the general public, particularly the consumer and food pavilions, while others require trade accreditation. Entry tickets are available at the gate; check thessalonikifair.gr for the 2027 ticket and programme details.

The TIF is held at the HelExpo Exhibition Centre on 26 Oktovriou Street, about 2 km southwest of Thessaloniki city centre. The city’s tram network stops nearby. Accommodation in Thessaloniki is significantly tighter during the fair - book well in advance if visiting during September.

Thessaloniki in September

September is one of the best months to visit Thessaloniki: the summer heat has eased (typically 24–28°C), the waterfront promenade is active in the evenings, and the city’s restaurant scene is at full capacity. The TIF brings an additional layer of energy to the city.

Beyond the fair itself, Thessaloniki’s September programme includes the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) in November, though the TIF period sees the city at its most commercially and culturally active.
