The Street Mode Festival is Thessaloniki’s annual urban culture event, bringing together street music, graffiti, breakdance, parkour, BMX, and skateboarding over two days each September. The 2027 edition - the 15th - is expected around 11–12 September, following the established mid-September timing. Exact dates and full programme will be published at streetmode.gr.
The festival takes place across outdoor venues in the city centre, with the main stage and competition areas set up in open public spaces. Entry is free throughout the weekend.
What the Festival Covers
Street Mode is the largest urban culture event in Greece, running simultaneously across multiple areas of Thessaloniki:
- Live music - hip-hop, electronic, and urban acts on the main stage, with sets running from afternoon into the late evening
- Graffiti live painting - artists producing large-scale works live over the two days, with the finished works remaining in place as permanent additions to the city
- Street dance competitions - breakdance, popping, locking, and combined disciplines; open categories and invite-only battles
- Action sports - BMX flatland and dirt competitions, parkour demonstrations, and skateboarding exhibitions
- Workshops and masterclasses - open to participants of all levels in dance, graffiti technique, and music production
The event draws participants and spectators from across Greece and neighbouring Balkan countries.
Combining with a Thessaloniki Visit
Mid-September is an excellent time to be in Thessaloniki. Summer temperatures are easing, the waterfront is still lively, and the city’s outstanding street food scene - souvlaki, bougatsa, koulouri, and the numerous covered market stalls near Modiano - is fully operational. The Byzantine churches, the White Tower, and the Arch of Galerius are all within walking distance of the city centre where the festival is based.
