Meteora Rock Festival 2026

The Meteora Rock Festival takes place each July at an outdoor site near Kalambaka, the town that sits at the foot of the extraordinary Meteora rock pillars. The combination of loud music and one of Greece’s most dramatic natural landscapes gives the event a character that is genuinely unlike any other festival in the country.

The setting and lineup

The festival grounds are positioned with views toward the towering sandstone formations and the monasteries perched on top of them — a backdrop that tends to make an impression even on seasoned festival-goers. The three-day programme covers rock and heavy metal across the full spectrum: classic rock, doom, thrash, progressive, and Greek metal acts share the bill with international headliners, though the exact lineup for 2026 had not been confirmed at time of writing. Previous editions have drawn acts from across Europe alongside popular Greek rock bands. The main stage runs into the late evening, with the surrounding landscape still visible by dusk well into mid-July. Temperatures in the Kalambaka area in early to mid-July typically reach 32-36°C during the day before cooling significantly after sunset.

Practical details

Day tickets and weekend passes are available via the official website. Prices in previous years have ranged from approximately €25 for a single day to €60 for a full weekend pass, though these change annually. On-site camping is available for festival pass holders, which is the most convenient option if you plan to stay for all three days. Bring a tent, a sleeping mat, and sun protection — shade on the campsite is limited during peak afternoon heat.

Kalambaka is reachable by direct train from Athens (roughly 4.5 hours) and from Thessaloniki (around 3 hours). Several daily buses also serve the route from both cities. Within Kalambaka, the festival site is accessible on foot or by local taxi during the event.

Before or after the festival

Arriving a day early is worthwhile simply to visit Meteora itself. The monasteries are UNESCO-listed and require modest entry fees (around €3 per monastery as of 2026); dress code requires covered shoulders and legs. Most are open from 09:00 until mid-afternoon, with closing days varying by monastery, so plan accordingly.
