The Santorini Jazz Festival takes place each July at the Santo Wines winery in Pyrgos, a hilltop village in the centre of the island that overlooks the caldera. It is a three-evening event featuring international jazz and world music artists performing on an open-air stage, with the caldera and the Aegean as the backdrop for sunset and post-sunset sets.

The venue and atmosphere

Santo Wines is one of Santorini’s best-known wineries, producing wines from the island’s indigenous Assyrtiko grape variety. The terrace has an expansive caldera view and is set up for around 3,000 guests during festival evenings. Wine tasting is woven into the festival experience — wine packages can typically be added to ticket purchases, and the winery’s cellar tours run on festival days for those arriving early.

The festival is deliberately intimate relative to large-scale European jazz events. The focus is on quality programming and the setting rather than high capacity or commercial sponsorship. Past editions have featured European and North American artists spanning contemporary jazz, Latin jazz, soul, and Afro-jazz. The 2026 lineup had not been confirmed at time of writing — check santorini-jazzfestival.com for programme announcements.

Practical information

Gates open in the late afternoon, with performances beginning around 20:00 and continuing past 23:00. Tickets in previous years have ranged from approximately €30 to €70 depending on date and seating zone. Book early: the festival sells out, and availability through third-party ticket agents is limited.

Pyrgos is located in the centre of the island, away from the tourist concentration in Fira and Oia. The KTEL bus service connects Fira to Pyrgos, but departures are infrequent in the evening — most visitors take a taxi or hire a car. Parking is available near the winery. Plan for 15-20 minutes from Fira by taxi.

Dress for warm evenings with a light layer for later in the night, as the hilltop catches the wind once temperatures drop after sunset. Comfortable shoes are advisable; the winery terrace involves some uneven ground.
